Before continuing please read the answers to these frequently asked questions. They may save you some time and make your visit more enjoyable! Q: What is paper piecing?
A: Foundation paper piecing is a very popular technique that allows you to piece a block without having the traditional templates. You also don't have to be concerned with seam allowances. The block that you are sewing is numbered, and it is the order that you sew the block. It is not necessary to precut the pieces to an exact size, because they are trimmed afterward. Each time that you sew a seam, you trim it back. The paper is left on the block until the blocks are all sewn together. This means that all your blocks will be the exact same size. After it is sewn together, and your first border is on, then the paper can be removed.
Q: I have never quilted before -- can I do this?
A: You bet. Use of the techniques discussed here eliminates the need for templates and worries about seam allowances. You just stitch on the line and sew in the order of the numbers printed on the pattern piece.
Q: What is the easiest pattern for me to start with?
A: All of the patterns are easy. You might want to start with the sampler. Then you will try a number of different blocks. Or perhaps the SNOW BABIES quilt, as it is simple and available in kit form.
